The Academy of Vocal Arts presents Jules Massenet’s operatic masterpiece Don Quichotte, a lyrical ode to the chivalrous idealist Don Quixote. Complete with windmills, Spanish serenades, and a profoundly poignant finale, Massenet’s opera is based loosely on Cervantes’ iconic novel which is considered one of the most influential pieces of literature during the Spanish Golden Age. However, unlike the Cervantes story of the same name, this melodious version spices up the simple farm girl into a sophisticated and flirtatious beauty, Dulcinée, who provokes a besotted old man, sending him on a wild adventure.
Don Quixote is ideal length, running under two hours of music. AVA Resident Artists and alumnus Burak Bilgili will be preforming on March 2nd through 9th at the Helen Corning Warden Theater in Rittenhouse, and March 12th and 14th at Centennial Hall in Haverford.
With student tickets costing a mere ten dollars, this is definitely an opportunity you don’t want to miss! For tickets and more information call 215.735.1685 or visit www.avaopera.org.
